The Sharon L. Doherty Student Leadership Award is given to a University of Minnesota student who has demonstrated outstanding volunteer service concerning women's issues on campus or in the broader community.
Amount
A $1000 award will be given to the recipient to be used in support of attendance at a national leadership conference. The recipient is recognized at the annual Celebrating Changemakers event hosted by the Women's Center.
Eligibility Requirements
- University of Minnesota undergraduate, graduate, or professional students enrolled at least half time with at least two semesters remaining until graduation (for example, applicants submitting an application due in June 2020 must be graduating no earlier than May 2021). Note: Recipients must use their award before graduation.
- Nominated students must demonstrate outstanding volunteer contributions, including the degree to which involvement has addressed women's issues or improved women's lives, particularly on campus.
Nomination Process
To nominate a student for the Doherty Award, submit the following items via email to the Women's Center by the deadline:
- Nomination letter (self-nominations are encouraged)
- One letter of support
- Nominee's resume or CV
Nominations are due the second Friday in June.
